Paul Scortesco was born in Jassy, Romania in 1895 and left his
home country to study painting at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris
under L.P. Laurens and Cormon. He fought in both World Wars and became
naturalised as a French Citizen in 1924.
His work
was exhibited in the Salons des Independents, the Salon des Tuileries and at
the Salon Nationale des Beaux Arts as well as internationally in Rome, Athens,
Lisbon, Cairo, Rio de Janeiro in Buenos Ayres. His painting of “Les Frantellini” was acquired by the City of Paris for the
Museum of New York and his “Port of San Tropez” was acquired by the State.
Public Collections in Athens, Cairo and Lisbon also hold his work.
He
travelled widely, painting from Venice to Palestine and from Hungary to the
Camargue and in Spain.
