Charles
Edwin Flower was a painter, wood engraver, lithographer
and illustrator. He was born at Meeton in Surrey and
lived at Annerly from 1899 and Warborough
near Wallingford from 1907. He studied at the Royal College of Art and
his work was exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Artists
Birmingham, Walker Art Gallery Liverpool and at the Royal Society of British
Artists. Many of his paintings of gardens were purchased by the Royal Family.
He travelled widely throughout Britain also painting in America, Canada, Germany and Argentina. Many of his views from different
countries were reproduced by many leading publishers. He illustrated “Old
Time Paris” by G.F. Edwards (1908); “No. 10
Downing Street” by C.E. Pascoe (1908) and produced around 300 paintings for
Raphael Tucks Cards and illustrated a catalogue for Augustus Pitt Rivers for
his archeological finds from his Wiltshire
estate. Examples of his work can be seen at the London
Museum.
