Brian Chalkley, painter and teacher, studied at Chelsea School of Art from 1970 to 1973 and at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1973 to 1975.  He taught at Norwich School of Art from 1975 to 1984 and in 1983/4 he held a six month placement with the British Steel Corporation as Artist in Industry on Teeside.  He went on to be a part time teacher at Chelsea School of Art and in 1989 gained a six month Rome Award in Painting spent at British School in Rome.  Chalkley made frequent appearances at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition from 1980 and was included in Artists in Industry at Hatton Gallery, Newcastle with a tour in 1984.  He had several solo shows in the North East of England, others including Howard Gardens Gallery, Cardiff in 1985 and Lanchester Gallery, Coventry Polytechnic in 1988.  The Arts Council holds his work.  He lived in London.
